Liza Minnelli is one of my favorite actresses. She comes close to upstaging Bob both through her costumes, such as this delightful navy and white ensemble with a whimsical ruffled fascinator, and through her unparalleled talent. The photo also shows the Hawaiian shirt worn by Bob in the beginning of the film in his relentless pursuit of Liza’s character. The New York motifs screen printed on the shirt hammer home the centrality of the city to the film, although in a bit too literal manner. Still, if the shoe (or the vintage Hawaiian shirt) fits…

Did you know? Liza Minnelli was married to Martin Scorsese at the time of this film. Additionally, Scorsese thought of this movie as a “film noir musical”. (IMDb)
